Thank heavens my friend Jean Sanford recommended that I see Hundred-Foot Journey, a 2014 film starring Helen Mirren. Being a foodie, I can’t believe I missed this fabulous film that stirred every emotion in me. While I found myself tugging for the family from India who had strayed to France for freedom and to begin anew, I sympathized with those across the street, offering memorable meals to their regulars. Suffering from the usual NIMBY (not in my back yard) folks who shunned foreigners, the family struggled opening their restaurant and Mirren’s team was ready for the competition. The drama focused on the two businesses and the tender attraction between a French gal and Indian young man. I couldn’t help myself. I wanted to know these people—above all, I wanted to eat their food! Check it out and see if you agree.
